The Body Coach, Cycle 1, Days 21 – 30

So I reached the end of Cycle 1! I can’t even quite believe I’ve finished the first 30 days. I stuck to the exercise 100% and the eating, probably about 85-90%. I had a one off plan meal and an ‘on plan’ Nandos. I then also drank one evening and then the next day skipped a meal and had a few naughty chocolates and sweets… oops! If you have no idea what I am on about then have a look at my earlier posts here that explain that I took on The Body Coach’s 90 Day SSS plan. Having finished Cycle 1 I can honestly say that embarking on this challenge has been so much better than I ever could have imagined. My attitude towards food and diet has changed considerably and I feel as though I have learnt so much.

Gone is the girl who thought she had to eat 1,200 calories and under to stay trim. I never would have guessed that I could eat the around 1,700 calories a day and feel as slim as I do! Also, cutting down on refined sugar has been amazing. The first week was difficult and it took a while to adjust to the reduction in sugar but once my body got used to it I felt incredible. I definitely have had a lot more energy and my mood has been pretty positive. One thing I realised the other day was that I didn’t crave loads of sugary things after my evening meal… I never thought that would happen! It has definitely helped just getting out of the habit. Yes I still love the idea of chocolate and sweet treats and I don’t think this will ever disappear but I no longer feel a compulsion to eat as much sugar as I did. I am also quite excited at trying some sugar free baking once the plan has finished as I can’t believe how good I feel reducing my sugar intake! I found that once my body had gotten over the initial sugar cravings, the food portions were much more satisfying and I haven’t felt anywhere near as hungry as I did to start with.

I loved the HIIT exercise in cycle 1 and discovered that I could actually motivate myself to workout in the living room to one of The Body Coach TV YouTube videos. The quick sessions have been very easy to fit into my routine whether that be first thing in the morning or after work. I am looking forward to a new way of exercising in cycle 2 though as it will be quite different with the introduction of weights and longer sessions. I am looking forward to getting back into the gym a bit more too.

I found the amount of food prep I had to do quite difficult during the first 10 days. It was very overwhelming and a different routine to what I am used to. However, once I got into the swing of it a bit more it became so much more manageable. The last 20 days were so much easier! I found out which meals I liked and how to make them. I also acquired a freezer so was able to batch cook a load at once. I love having hot meals for my lunch at work too and I think this will be even more welcomed as Winter approaches!

So all in all it has been a huge learning curve. I feel as though I have come out the other side so much better. Yes there have been struggles and times when I just wanted to eat sweeties and pizza. There have been times I have not wanted to prep a load of food but I am so proud of myself for sticking with it and being disciplined. No joke I actually had natural yogurt as a cinema snack whilst my friends all had sweeties and popcorn!

One thing I did learn this cycle is that hangovers are awful on a whole new level! As I mentioned earlier on I did drink one night for a friends birthday. Though I stuck to gin and slimline the whole time the next day I felt so ill! My headache was the worst I have ever felt it and it was not fun :’) I think perhaps it was due to my body not being used to alcohol and then the low carb diet probably didn’t help. Just a word or warning anyway!

So how did my end of cycle 1 measurements go? Well I am too nervous to post my photos, sorry! But I am pretty pleased. I lost a couple of kilograms and have trimmed off a few inches from my stomach and thighs. I feel that I look more toned and some of my clothes have definitely become looser. The changes in my attitude towards food and diet though is incredible and hopefully this will be the end to yo-yo dieting, restricting what I eat and feeling that I need to eat less to stay slim.

So bring on cycle 2 with all the carbs, the weight training and the pick and mix food prep… I’ll let you know how I get on!
