Bluu, Northern Quarter Manchester

Last Saturday on a beautifully sunny day I went to check out Bluu in the Northern Quarter. This cool and quirky part of town is one of my faves for food and drink spots and there are so many great places to visit. Bluu sits on the corner of Thomas Street with a gorgeous outdoor seating area for when the sun shines. (It is sunny in Manchester sometimes, promise!)

Bluu is often better known for its drinks. It has a very chilled out atmosphere and a large, welcoming bar. People will often visit here on a night out in the Northern Quarter but the venue also has a great food menu. If you want good old feel good food with lots of cheese, carbs and all the good stuff then Bluu has just that. The menu features lots of homemade comforts with meats that are seasoned and smoked for up to 16 hours so everything has very rich, deep flavours. You’ll also find ribs, BBQ chicken, Beef Brisket and Burgers.

Tom went for a classic burger and opted for a side of Straight Jack Cheese Fries. Oh wow, these fries were just something else. They took cheesy chips to a whole new level and I would be happy eating these every day. Not too sure what my waist line would think though. The deep fried chips with smotherings of melted cheese are delicious! Tom’s burger also was a solid burger. Nothing that we’d not tried before, but a great classic burger.

If like me you fancy something a little lighter you could go for one of the salads. With it being lunch time and a very warm day I really craved a salad. I went for the Smoked Couscous and Halloumi salad. This comes complete with deep fried mac and cheese so you can still enjoy a bit of deep fried naughtiness! My salad was tasty although I do think that if you visit Bluu for food then their meats and burgers are more their specialty.

If you love your Breakfast out, there is a great Brunch menu at Bluu. With all the standard faves, Big Breakfast, Buttermilk Pancakes, Veggie Breakfast, there’s something for everyone. From my experience at Bluu I would imagine the full English style breakfasts to taste pretty good with lots of flavour and deliciousness. I feel like if you’re looking for a great hangover cure this could be a great option!

We weren’t able to try the dessert menu which was a shame. There were some incredible sounding dishes on there. Again, think comfort food with the likes of Gooey chocolate Brownie and Lemon Meringue Pie. The Woopie Pie, a chocolate and peanut butter cream pie with caramel ice cream sounds incredible too…

Bluu is a very chilled out place and I think would make the perfect venue for drinks and a meal with friends. If it is a lovely day do make the most of the outdoor seating too! For more info visit here
