Yard & Coop chicken, Manchester Northern Quarter

Yard & coop, chicken burger, Manchester Calling all chicken lovers! There is a trendy, causal restaurant devoted entirely to chicken located in the Northern Quarter that goes by the name Yard & Coop. Finding its home amongst other popular and quirky cafes and bars, the Edge Street  location gives this place a lot of street cred. Yard & Coop isn’t just any other ‘Nandos’ style restaurant though. It has character and a fun liveliness to it. The menu is bursting with buttermilk fried chicken but offers plenty of choice for a seemingly one stop restaurant.

One option when you visit Yard and Coop, is to select from the mix and match style menu. Basically you can choose your chicken, choose your sauce and pair this with either chips or coop salad. There are also plenty of sides to choose from, including Mac N Cheese balls. I didn’t try these but they sound incredible! We decided to try the burgers. Tom went for the Massive Cock Burger – I said this place had character. This is honestly one of the biggest burgers I have ever seen… An incredible dish absolutely bursting with flavour. It even includes battered chorizo which was delicious.

I went for the Halloween themed Yippy-Ki-Yay-Mutha-Clucka. This chicken burger is slightly more normal in size (though still huge) and full of cheese, bacon and bourbon sauce. It was so delicious. The Halloween twist meant that it had been given a spicy makeover giving it even more of a kick.

To wash down our burgers we also ordered a milkshake each. I went for a classic chocolate shake and Tom when for the salted caramel one. Both were literally so thick and creamy. I could drink that chocolate milkshake everyday. It’s the kind that is made with ice cream and alllll of the good stuff. Maybe not the healthiest option, but if you’re gonna enjoy a milkshake you might as well go all out.

Chocolate milkshake, salted caramel milkshake I loved the laid back vibe at Yard & Coop and the decor was seriously cool. In the centre of the restaurant there are huge coop style booths which would be great for a group. Although we visited at lunchtime I would love to come back in the evening and have a few beers. It’s such a great place to come and hang out with friends with extremely tasty chicken!

This place looks so cool – slightly torn by the chicken coop booths but other than that, how quirky! Don’t tend to eat a lot of red meat these days but most burger places only tend to have one or two chicken or veggie options so how cool to see so many ideas on this menu – if only I lived a little closer or they opened one north of the border!
