When Paul Hollywood’s latest range of Ready to Bake Bread Rolls landed on my doorstep, I decided I wanted to make something REALLY delicious with them. Bread is always very scrummy but when it has been created by one of the UK’s most renowned bakers, you can’t get much better then GBBO now can you, I knew they were going to be special.
The best thing is that you can just pop them in the oven for 10 minutes and you are left with a delicious, warm roll that is soft and doughy on the inside whilst has the right amount of crispiness around the outside. Carb heaven? Carb heaven.
The range is made with a slow fermented starter (a blend of flour, water and yeast), which has been fermented for several hours before being added to the main dough to deliver a richer flavour, but without any added preservatives – brilliant!
Paul said that he “wanted to produce a range of products that lots of people would enjoy, and the freshly baked aroma that fills the kitchen when they are being baked is the best.” This is exactly what happened when I popped them in the oven and he’s right, there isn’t much that beats the smell of freshly baked bread. Anyone would have thought I’d been up for hours, kneading dough and baking my own homemade bread from scratch!
I decided to try them out for breakfast first and what better way than a classic bacon bun. The warm bread and the sizzling bacon meant that the butter sandwiched between them melted beautifully and the combination of these was one incredible, melt-in-your-mouth bacon bun!
Secondly, I wanted to try these out for dinner. I decided to make some halloumi, rocket and caramelised onion chutney burgers. I can’t believe how quickly I was able to whip these up. After warming the bread up and frying the halloumi for 10 mins, all that was needed was a generous dollop of chutney, followed by a handful of rocket and the halloumi and there you have it – the most delicious dinner! Add in some sweet potato fries and a bowl of side salad and you’ve got yourself a very tasty, simple, easy and impressive looking spread of food.
There are six tasty rolls to a batch available in crusty, seeded or multi-seed varieties. All are available from £1.49 in Waitrose, Tesco, Ocado and Budgens stores.
Although the convenience of these rolls makes them perfect for everyday use, I think they would also be great for parties when you want something a little more filling than just canapés and nibbles. You can make the cutest looking little burgers that will look impressive and provide something substantial to eat too. I can’t wait to experiment with more fillings:
- Turkey and cranberry burgers would be perfect for Christmas parties
- Beef and Mozerella burgers would seem as though ey had come straight off a summer BBQ
- Avocado and chicken burgers
… The list goes on!
