About a month ago, after I had handed in my dissertation and I was finally free from the ties of university deadlines, a few friends and I decided to explore some of Yorkshire. I may have lived in Leeds for three years but the majority of that was spend in the uni bubble, which consisted of nothing more than the shops, the clubs and the library. We decided it was time to go a little further afield and see what our uni city had to offer.
We took the train from Leeds and found ourselves in the quiet little town of Ilkley, ready for a walk on Illkley Moor. We had high hopes for a gorgeous, sunny day but with apparent wind speeds of up to 22mph, we soon realised this was not likely to happen! Nevertheless, the grey sky didn’t deter us and as we pulled into the quaint little town, I couldn’t believe how nice it was. There are so many cute looking shops and cafes that I really want to have a look round – but I’ve saved that for another day.
We found our way to the start of the walk and began the ascent up and along Illkley Moor. There were some fabulous views to which the photos really don’t do justice.
Just as the weather forecast had predicted, the winds were strong and I was slightly alarmed by the angle of these trees… I was a little worried that I should have brought a protective helmet just incase one came toppling down!
There were a few other parties of people around but mostly it was just the three of us. It was so invigorating and I felt so free. I’m a country bumpkin at heart but studying in the city of Leeds means that I don’t get to see the countryside that much and I always forget how much I love it!
As soon as I spotted Keisha’s reflective sunnies, (which also matched the scenery much to my appreciation.) I couldn’t resist snapping a few pics in their reflections…
Next stop was lunch… at The Cow and Calf. So many people had recommended that we visit here so I was very excited to try out their Sunday Lunch menu and oh my goodness was I impressed. It was just what we needed after a morning of walking.
I went for the herb crusted pork, which came with all the trimmings, and it was so delicious! Finished off with a gooey chocolate brownie I was in such a happy place.
If you’re looking for some days out in Yorkshire, I cannot recommend this enough. It was a great way to spend our sunday, enjoying the fresh air, some amazing food and the best company. I only regret not going to visit Ilkley Moor earlier!
