Ladbrokes Boat Party

ladbrokes boat party on the thames in London

London is hands down my favourite city in the UK. Don’t get me wrong, I love Leeds so much but there is something about being in the capital that makes me feel on top of the world.

A few weeks ago, Gabby from What She Buys and I, boarded the train down south with a bottle of prosecco in one hand and our cameras in the other. We were about to climb aboard the Golden Jubilee for a boat party on the Thames with Ladbrokes!

We did feel a little over dressed getting on the train at 3pm but at least there were two of us.

We got a little bit over excited when we arrived, clicking away at all the tourist landmarks.

Moment of crisis

We embarked on our journey, thinking we had everything planned out. Our trains were booked in advance and we had even set alarms on our phone to remind us to leave for our train…

However, it seemed we had overlooked something… the party was due to finish at midnight, yet our train home was at 11.30pm. It suddenly occurred to us that we couldn’t possibly get the last train back as there was no way we could get off the boat early when it was in the middle of the Thames! Oops… so it didn’t all go quite as ‘swimmingly’ (pun intended) as we had originally thought!

Thankfully there were spaces on the 1am Megabus so we quickly booked onto that and enjoyed the rest of the evening.

It was incredible on board the boat. We all felt very glamorous, making use of the free bar and watching London light up around us as the sun dropped in the sky.

On boarding, we were each given £100 worth of chips to use on the various games. There was also a lovely buffet to accompany the free wine! I’m not sure that gambling is for me… I couldn’t even bear to part with my fake £100! It was fun to watch the pros though.

The evening ended with lots of dancing, singing and selfies… by the time we had to get off we were ready for a night out! Unfortunately though, Gabby and I had our Megabus to catch…

Against all the odds we managed to make it to the tube and then to Victoria coach station. At this point though, it was our heels in our hands, not the bottle of bubbly!

Boarding the Megabus marked a significant downgrade in glamour and sophistication compared to the rest of our evening. At least we could see the funny side to it! We pulled into Leeds coach station at 6am and taxied back home ready to climb into bed.

It was such a fun night – I’m so glad you managed to get us back to the station as I didn’t have a clue and would have had us stranded oops!

I think a night out in London for all us Leeds girls is definitely needed soon 🙂

Hahah I could relate all too well to that feeling of being over dressed on a bus way too early in the day. Whenever I go to music festivals in Chicago I feel the same way- people are going to work in their suits and I’m just sitting there all unassuming in a white hippie dress and my hair in braids. This event looks FANTASTIC, I would love to go to a fancy event like this. I’d feel so glamorous. And phew, good thing you were still able to catch a bus back home 🙂 Crisis averted!

Ah this post brought back all the fantastic memories! So glad you got home again afterwards – I felt very lucky not having to travel far… I’ll have to come up North soon to compare it to Leeds’ offerings 🙂
