One of the things that I love so much about Leeds is the amazing city centre. Not only is there is a huge variety of shops, cafes and restaurants, there are areas with the most incredible architecture. Ever since discovering Leeds at the university open day (way back when) I fell in love with the gorgeous Victoria Quarter. It is here that you will find the more upmarket shops and they couldn’t be placed in a more glamorous setting. Last week I was invited here for an exclusive preview of the Spring Beauty Fix, an event that is happening at the Victoria Quarter on the 25th – 26th April.
It promises to be an event full of ‘expert beauty advice, exclusive offers, discounts and demonstrations’. If my little taster afternoon last week is anything to go by, it sure is something not to be missed! If you’re in or around the Leeds area I would really recommend that you pay a visit.
Let me whet your appetite with a little account of what we got up to!
First stop was Kiehl’s…
We were all given these little patch tests to find out how oily/dry our skin was. We pressed them to our cheek and forehead for 5-10 seconds and then matched them to the chart below. It was really interesting to see the results.
We were then introduced to Kiehl’s top 5 products.
No. 1 is the Midnight Recovery Oil. This claims to replenish skin with moisture overnight leaving you with radiant and younger looking skin in the morning. Sounds pretty good right?! Emma, one of the other bloggers, confirmed that she currently uses this and absolutely loves it. We were all given one to take away and try out for ourselves. I have used it for a couple of nights now and so far so good! I was a little worried it would be too oily for my skin but you only use the tiniest amount so as of yet this hasn’t been a problem.
Top Product No. 2 is the Powerful Strength Line Reducing Concentrate and No. 3, the Ultra Facial Cream. As much I would want to ignore the Line Reducing Concentrate for a few years (21 isn’t that old!) they do say that prevention is the best cure. I guess it is never too early to start protecting skin against lines and wrinkles! The Ultra Facial Cream is a 24 hour moisturiser that can protect skin even in the harshest of conditions. It was actually tried and tested amongst the highest peaks of Greenland!
Product no. 4 is the Creme de Corps. This is an ultra hydrating moisturiser for the body and Emma once again confirmed this this is a miracle product! I was very impressed to learn that this is what all the Victoria Secret models wear! That is a definite selling factor… it must be amazing!
I was really interested to learn that Kiehl’s don’t actually advertise their brand, it is merely through word of mouth that they have become so successful. This means that they can really focus on their ingredient and provide natural and beneficial products. Anyone is entitled to go in for a free skin consultation where you will receive a week’s worth of samples that will be perfect for your skin type. I think this is great as it means you are not obliged to buy anything. You can take home your samples and test them before you even think about getting out your debit card!
I absolutely loved the decor in Kiehl’s…
Isn’t this chandelier just incredible!
Next stop was Illamasqua…
We all got our lips and contouring done.
I have been on the look out for the perfect nude lipstick for a while so I asked to try something along those lines. They used shade ‘Rose Pout’ on me and I really liked it. I much prefer a pink nude to a brown nude and this shade was so perfect and pretty.
I was pretty scared when I saw the contour stick – it looked SO dark!! (Take a look at the link and you will see what I mean). Fear not though, we were shown that it doesn’t actually come out in such a scary colour and instead creates a great shadow illusion. For someone with absolutely no cheekbone definition I was very interested to watch them apply the product!
We then made our way to Harvey Nichols and to the Charlotte Tilbury counter. We learnt so much interesting info about Charlotte herself and her story. She sounds like such glamorous person. With a friend list containing the likes of Kate Moss how couldn’t she be! She has created ten different looks using just one model just to show the amazing transformation that make up can give.
Charlotte Tilbury is a brand I have lusted over for a while so it was incredible to get to try out some of the products. They all look so beautiful in their rose gold packaging. They just scream luxury – I really did wish I could buy the whole lot!
Once again I asked to try out a nude lipstick. I tried the shade Penelope Pink and I LOVED it! Even more so that the Illamasqua one.

I also fell in love with the mascara (there is only one which goes to show how good it is) and the Colour Chameleon eye shadow pencil in ‘Champagne Diamonds’ (that name though!) The Colour Chameleon range is basically a collection colours unique to every eye colour.
I loved all the products from my makeover but these two are the ones I very nearly bought… (I hope you’re impressed with my self restraint!) I have decided that I am going to save up and buy them for myself in the next few months.
I did absolutely love the Filmstar Bronze and Glow palette (check out my reaction below when I was shown the result!). I just don’t know if I could ever justify paying £49.99 though!
By this point we were all pretty peckish so we headed to the Harvey Nichols Expresso Bar for afternoon tea. This place is just up from Filmore and Union and in the most beautiful location!
You can see below how pretty the highlight is from the Filmstar Bronze and Glow palette.
First up we ordered drinks, I went for my all time favourite: hazelnut hot chocolate – you really cannot beat it! How beautiful is the swirl detail on top?!
Then the food arrived. We were treated to a fabulous range of sandwiches, cakes and scones complete with cream and jam. It was D.I.V.I.N.E.
After a lovely chat and some delicious food we made our way to Neal’s Yard. This is a place I have wanted to go to for ages after discovering it in Covent Garden in London. They use completely natural ingredients and believe that being beautiful on the inside in turn creates outer beauty. They also are extremely ethical in everything they do, impressively they are the first health and beauty brand to be awarded 100/100 for ethics. I found it really inspiring hearing what the lovely ladies at Neal’s Yard had to say. They made me want to re think my entire health/beauty regime.
First up we tried a super food matcha cocktail. I am not going to lie and say it was the most delicious thing I have ever tasted… in fact I didn’t really enjoy it at all but it felt very healthy and green!
Emma was lucky enough to receive a facial massage using the Wild Rose Beauty Balm!
