Chia seeds, avocado and eating clean!

IMG_4723

Hey Lovelies!

I really enjoy eating clean and experimenting with healthy recipes. There are endless possibilities to be creative with healthy and raw ingredients and I love trying out new things. I haven’t really posted any recipes in ages and this is something I really want to start doing more. I wrote about the two ingredient pancakes way back in October when I first started blogging (you should definitely try these btw) and I would love to start writing about this kind of thing again.

I had planned to try out a vegan lifestyle for a few weeks this year but I always put it off due to events/meals out which would make maintaing a vegan diet extremely difficult. I’ve realised there is never going to be a perfect stretch of time where I can be completely in control of what I eat so here is my new plan.

I am going to be travelling around quite a bit in the next few weeks. I always find that when I am out and about, keeping on track of healthy eating becomes much more difficult. A lot of restaurants do not hold back on oil and full fat cream/milk etc. in order to make their food as tasty as possible. Although this is fine every once in a while I do not want to be eating these sorts of dishes for a prolonged length of time. So whilst I find myself flying all over the country during the next few weeks, I intend to seek out healthy cafes/restaurants and I will be writing about this journey as I go. I have had my eye on a few places already, The Wild Food Cafe for example (I’ve been wanting to go here in forever!). I’m so excited for this journey!

Here are a few of the healthy and delicious things that I have been eating recently:

I tried out lots of juices using all sorts of different combinations of fruit, vegetables and yoghurts at the Currys Introjuicing event a few weeks back. Just this morning I purchased  my very own Active Blend from Amazon after hearing so many good things about it from fellow bloggers on twitter. I can’t wait to try it out and be sure to check in for reviews, recipes and more! I love how easy it looks to use and clean and it was only £20!

At the Reon Rave event we ate chocolate protein balls (massive thumbs up) and drank green smoothies (thumbs down… I need some sweetness in my drinks). I was also introduced to Chia seeds. They were added to the yoghurt and granola mixture creating an extremely healthy breakfast. I was told I would either love it or hate it due to their jelly-like texture. It is safe to say that I absolutely loved it! Hence my next pic…

Ever since trying Chia seeds at the Reon Rave, I have been googling recipes, images, information etc… infact I have become quite fascinated with their endless possibilities. I decided it was time to get some of my own. At £5 something for 250g they are pretty expensive but I’m hoping that the bag will go a long way. Last night I added a tablespoon of the seeds to 200g or so of low fat natural yoghurt and left it covered in the fridge over night as instructed. This morning I then added granola, banana, blueberries and a generous helping of honey and voila!! It was so delicious 😀

I am on a bit of an avocado hype at the moment. Last weekend when I was home I made THEE most delicious brunch. Avocado and poached egg on toast – absolute perfection. If that last picture isn’t the definition of #yolkporn then I don’t know what is!

5. I told you I was a bit obsessed with avocado… I had been contemplating making baked egg and avocado for ages after seeing people rave about it on instagram and twitter but I was really worried that I wouldn’t enjoy the texture. After getting over this I went ahead and made it. I can confirm that this is an absolute treat!! You just need to make sure that you scoop out a tbsp or so of the avocado before cracking the egg into it (I didn’t and there was a bit of an over flow situation…) anyway, as long as you remember to do that all that is needed is 10-15 mins in the oven, a sprinkling of seasoning and you’re good to go! I like to eat it with tomatoes too 🙂

So there are a few examples of the kinds of dishes I want to start making/eating and blogging about. I can’t wait to try out some new restaurants and cafes in Leeds/London/Manchester etc and I will be letting you know how I get on!!

Have you tried Chia seeds? Baked egg in avocado?

Can you recommend any good cafes/restaurants that serve the kind of thing I am after? I’d love to know! Please do link me to any good recipes you’ve tried out as well 🙂

That’s all for now. Lots of love,

Try a slice of brown toast, small bed of baby spinach leaves, a poached egg, sprinkling of cheddar and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar. . . It’s gorgeous !

I always contemplate going vegan but life really does get in the way, I think I might try eat vegan like 90% of the time (so when I’m in control of my own food) and vegetarian the rest, like when I’m out for food or something 🙂 I really want to get an Active Blend, let me know how you get on with it!

Yeah it is something that is hard to maintain when you’re going out etc. Sounds like a good plan! That’s the kind of thing I am aiming for. I used it for the first time this morning and I loved it! I’ll be writing up some posts about it in the next few weeks 🙂 x

this post is exactly what i need! I’m really trying to eat clean at the moment, it has so many benefits but every now and then i really crave chocolate…i need a replacement! I recently got that blender and thought I’d also introduce you to ‘flax’ seed, it’s ground up nuts and adds a great source of protein to your smoothie/juice! I use one dried table spoon, it doesn’t taste nutty in the drink though 🙂 xx
