I hope everyone has had a great first few days in 2015! I cannot believe how fast last year went (it feels strange to call it last year). It was a crazy 365 days full of ups and downs but nonetheless, it really has been amazing. One huge thing is that it is the year that I started blogging. Although I haven’t been in the blogging world very long, I already feel like I have met some amazing new people and learnt so much. I just can’t wait for what is to come.
Looking back over the year, there have been some amazing moments so I thought I would take a little trip down memory lane and create a little nostalgic post on what happened! So let’s start at the beginning, January! January is never really that interesting as it is often filled with revision and exams. One highlight though was a trip to Betty’s in Harrogate with my girls from uni. It was a really special occasion, we dressed up nicely and saved up for it (if you have been you will know that it is quite pricey.. especially on a student budget!). Complete with a glass of pink champagne, we had such a lovely time celebrating one of my closest friends 21st birthdays – definitely keep this in mind if you’re looking for birthday ideas.
February was the month of my annual course ball. There is nothing I love more than a black tie do and this was no exception. Everyone looked gorgeous and we had such an incredible night. The room was decorated so beautifully and the food was to die for!
March is my birthday month! I was lucky enough to celebrate three times. Firstly I went home for the weekend and I was treated to a lovely meal out and a birthday cake. I was then treated to home-made afternoon tea by my amazing friends at uni. Thirdly, my close friends from home came to visit me in Leeds and we had a lovely afternoon/evening catching up over cocktails. It is things like this that really make me grateful for the amazing people in my life, I am so lucky to have such amazing friends and family!
April was the month that I went to Spain on tour with my dance society at university. We had so much fun and consumed a lot of Sangria! I will be going again this Easter and I cannot wait! Me and some uni friends also went to Ireland as one of our house mates lives there. We had the most amazing time there, the atmosphere was incredible and it is definitely on my list of places to go back to. April was also the month that I started my blog. (Although I don’t count it as starting from this time as I had a long break over the summer).
May was also quite uneventful due to university exams. I did start experimenting with product and beauty photography as a result of starting up my blog.
June was the month that I finished for the summer. I had a lovely trip to London with my mum to see Romeo and Juliet the ballet, at the Royal Albert Hall. Just seeing the hall itself was amazing! The ballet was out of this world though, I loved every second of it. We spent the evening exploring Covent Garden, making a very special trip to Laduree for hot chocolate and macarons! The next day I went to visit one of my very close friends as she lives in Camden. We enjoyed fresh pineapple juice at Camden Lock – the perfect summery treat!
In July, me and my Mum went on an incredible trip to Santorini together. The island is absolutely beautiful. The blue sea and sky combined with the white, Greek architecture that climbs up the side of the cliff makes it a place of incredible, photogenic bliss. It really was heaven! We had a lovely time relaxing, eating great food and generally having a lovely, girly time.
Although we set off in July, August was the month that I embarked on a trip of a lifetime. After saving up for a very long time and lots of careful planning, me and a group of friends arrived in Thailand. We explored so much of the country, exploring the jungle of Chang Mai on a three day hike including an elephant ride! We also spent a week on the beautiful island of Ko Phangan, the home also to the famous Full Moon Party. Seeing the sun rise after probably one of the biggest parties I will ever go to was such an amazing experience!
We then spent a week in Cambodia. We saw one of the wonders of the world – Angkor Wat. I absolutely loved exploring the country. It was so far from Western life and it was extremely eye opening to see the culture there.
The last two weeks of our five week adventure were spent making our way up the coast of Vietnam. Starting in Ho Chi Minh city we headed north, seeing so much on our way. The country was so incredibly diverse. From the hustle and bustle of the main cities in the north and south to the idyllic and deserted beaches of Hoi An; we saw it all! One of the highlights was a boat cruise through Halong Bay – a must if you ever visit Vietnam.
In September, I returned from South East Asia and within a matter of days got back on a plane to Italy for my family holiday! I really was very lucky in terms of travel in 2014. I don’t think I will ever visit so many places in such a short amount of time again. Pisa was beautiful. We spent the afternoon being touristy and then made our way to Florence. I fell completely in love with this city. It was so romantic and beautiful and definitely wins a place in my top three European cities! I will definitely be making another visit here in the future.
A few days in Florence and many ice creams later, we made our way to Lake Garda – another absolutely beautiful place to visit. It was lovely to relax by the lake after a full on few days walking round the city. We had an incredible time soaking up the views and spending time together as a family.
September also marked the start of my final year at uni.
Aside from being a month of lots of dressing up (Tutankhamen and Black Swan), October is a very important month for me. This is the month that I officially started blogging and What Sass Says as it is today was born. From the 22nd October onwards, I have been so committed to the growth and expansion of my blog. Although it can sometimes get quite stressful and takes up a lot of time, I have loved every second of it and I am so proud of had far it has come in the last few months.
In November, I went to my first few blogging events, the Pandora Wishes event being one of my favourites! I met some lovely people here including Lizi from Glasses Girl, Lorna from life-by-Ide and Holy from Tea and Blush. Fingers crossed I meet these girls again in the coming year! November also saw a trip to London which you can read about here. I also bought my own domain name which was an exciting step for the blog.
December was a lovely, festive month. I had the chance to dress up all sparkly for my dance society Christmas dinner an I had a lovely early Christmas at my uni house. Finally, I had a lovely Christmas at home with my family!
Phew! So that is another year done! I have really enjoyed writing this post and looking back over the incredible moments that 2014 held. I hope everyone had a lovely year. Please do send over any similar posts, I’d love to see what you got up to!
I can’t wait to see what the new year brings, Happy New Year!
Lots of love,
