Hi everyone Earlier this week my Mum came to visit me in Leeds. We went to Browns restaurant for lunch and I thought I would share with you our lovely experience there. I love trying out new places to eat and the food here was delicious!
Aside from the food, one of the things I love about Browns is their decor. The restaurant is comprised of huge, long windows letting in loads of light and this is further intensified by the mirrors that surround the room. Combined with the dark wood and cream panelling it feels very grand and sophisticated. The decor created an appealing and inviting space for a lovely meal in a relaxed atmosphere.
Between 12 and 6 on weekdays, there is a ‘2 courses for £10’ menu. Mum went for this option and I do think it is very good value for money. My only criticism is that the main dishes are all quite heavy, often accompanied with chips or potatoes but not many vegetables. For a meal during the day, I much prefer something a little lighter. Although there is a goats cheese and walnut salad on this menu, they didn’t have it when we were there so I chose the smoked beetroot and goats cheese tatin from the main menu.
But first, lets talk drinks. As it was the middle of the day, I went for one of their softails. It was hard to decide on one because they all sounded so delicious but in the end I went for the Fruit Punch: Strawberry, white peach, cranberry, apple and lime. It was so tasty and refreshing. The lime gave it a zesty kick which really complemented the flavours of the other fruits. Mum was boring and went for a glass of tap water!
Next our main dishes arrived. Like I said, I went for the Smoked beetroot and goats cheese tatin.
This dish was absolutely delicious. The flavours of the beetroot and goats cheese worked so well together and the combination of these softer textures with the pastry underneath was to die for. The dish came with green beans and rocket. Although the warm, melted goats cheese felt quite indulgent, the vegetables kept it healthy and fresh. Mum ordered the chargrilled chicken breast which came with crumbled bacon and fries. I tried a bit of the chicken and it was lovely. Mum really enjoyed it although there were a lot of chips and I really think it could be improved by incorporating some vegetables.
Next came dessert. I have a sweet tooth so I was very excited! There is a lot of choice on the menu and I found it really hard to decide. In the end, I went for the Warm Kentish Brambley apple pie (from mum’s 2 courses for £10 menu) and she went for salted caramel profiteroles. Being one of my favourite desserts, the apple pie did not disappoint. The apples were sweet and full of flavour and the pastry was just perfect. Accompanied by warm custard I was in heaven.
Mum’s profiteroles look incredible. They were drizzled in a lime fudge sauce. We weren’t sure how this would work with the salted caramel flavour but it really did. Finished off with slabs of salted caramel and clotted cream, this was a rich, decadent and indulgent dessert, perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth. I had a little taste and it was delicious.
Surprisingly enough, we still had a little bit of room for a drink. If you know me, you will know that I am a hot chocolate addict, so obviously I went for this. The hot chocolate here was amazing! So different to what I normally would have. Basically the chocolate came in a separate jug to the frothy milk so I could chose how strong I wanted it. I love chocolate so I poured pretty much all of it into the cup but this is the perfect way for people to decide for themselves how they want their drink to taste. I also aded a sugar cube because without this, the chocolate was quite bitter.
Mum had a pot of earl grey tea. I love the fact that it used real tea leaves, I think it looks so authentic and pleasing.
I had a lovely lunch out at Browns and I would definitely recommend it to anyone. There is a lot of variety on the menus which is great. The service was very friendly but professional, although at points maybe a little slow. However, this might be down to the fact that me and Mum took ages to order our drinks and main courses as we had so much catching up to do! If you read my recent post ‘Shades of Grey’, (read here) you will know that I love wearing, black, white, blue and neutral colours at the moment so these colours comprised the basis of my outfit for the day. Here is what I wore:
The coat and shirt are both from Zara. I absolutely love this coat, the colour is classy and I feel a million dollars when I wear it. I try and keep it for special occasions because I am so paranoid of getting it dirty! You can buy it here. The shirt is lovely and tailored, I felt chick and sophisticated wearing it. You can buy it here. The skirt is from Topshop, a brilliant staple item that goes with so many tops/coats/shoes/accessories and you can buy this item here. Below is my favourite handbag, bought from Florence in Italy. The boots are from River Island but I bought them last year. I love wearing a pair of black, leather, heeled boots, they are a must have in my winter wardrobe.
To accessorise my outfit, I kept it simple. I wore this gorgeous bracelet that I received for Christmas last year and my Pandora birth stone ring which you can buy here. I love how understated and simple yet elegant this jewellery looks.
I hope you like my outfit! Have you ever eaten at Browns before?
What did you think?
